Hot Wheels has announced that it is working with Gucci to make a limited edition 1:64 scale version of the 1982 Cadillac Seville Gucci.
The model is being produced to celebrate the fashion brand’s 100th birthday and is the first haute couture collaboration that Hot Wheels has ever undertaken. It’s also the first time Gucci has ever been involved in a toy car.
“This epic and unexpected collaboration between Gucci and Hot Wheels reinforces that toys are a canvas that reflect pop culture, fashion, and design,” said Richard Dickson, President and Chief Operating Officer, Mattel. “We are thrilled to celebrate and honor Gucci’s incredible 100th milestone with an artistic take on a limited-edition Hot Wheels, reinforcing the significance of Toys as Art.”

The model isn’t just any Hot Wheels. It will be limited to just 5,000 examples and features an all-metal die-cast body and chassis and it rides on “Real Riders” tires. The toymaker promises that every single detail, right down to the GG pattern on the roof and the gold piping on the seats is authentic.
The model was designed by Bryan Benedict and Ralph Benitez and Hot Wheels was careful to take the special details beyond just the model. Sold in a clear box, the toy comes wrapped in an authentic Gucci box and slipcover that also features the fashion brand’s signature green wrapping paper.
If the idea of a Gucci-branded Cadillac sounds a little unusual to you, Classic Cars Online Today has a great look back at the history of the brand in the automotive world. The fashion brand has been working with American carmakers since the early ’70s, first pairing with American Motors Corporation (AMC). That collaboration kind of made sense since the automaker had partnered with Levis and Pierre Cardin before releasing the AMC Hornet Gucci Edition in 1972.
By 1978, Gucci was working with the master of American luxury, Cadillac. This generation of Seville, which ran from 1980 to 1985, was the most popular. It featured Gucci patterned trim on the inside, gold-plated trim, and a matching luggage set, plus nearly every option offered by Cadillac at the time.
If you’re interested in marking the history of Cadillac’s collaboration with Gucci, Hot Wheels is dropping this limited-edition model on October 18, 2021, at 9 AM PT (12 PM ET). You’ll have to really want it, though, because it rings it in at $120.
Gucci has collaborated with Mattel Creations to create its first @Hot_Wheels collectible: a replica of the Cadillac ‘Seville by Gucci’. Only 5,000 pieces of this limited-edition miniature version of the ’82 model are available. #HotWheelsxGucci Hot Wheels® https://t.co/gfqpr5RJJM pic.twitter.com/4VH2Cotdf8
