Honda To Bring Two 2022 Civic Si Racing Prototypes To SEMA

Honda is bringing seven vehicles to the 2021 SEMA show in Las Vegas, including a pair of Honda Civic Si racing car concepts.

The HPD Honda Civic Si Race Car has been designed to compete in the SRO TC Americas series and is described as a “turn-key” race-ready version of the all-new warm version of the sedan. The other Civic Si racing prototype that will take the stage is a one-off that has been built by volunteers across various divisions of Honda. The car will take part in the National Auto Sports Association’s (NASA) 25-hour of Thunderhill sports car race in Northern California.

The Ready-To-Race Prototype Civic Si

The HPD Civic Si Race Car Prototype (to give it its full name) features a number of upgrades designed to make the new car race-ready. It has been built from a body-in-white shell, and while the engine is largely stock, the prototype features a custom tune and high-capacity radiator. Other modifications include a strengthened fourth gear, a Cusco / HPD LSD, and an uprated exhaust from Borla / HPD.

In addition to the expected safety additions, such as a roll cage, OMP seats, harness, and steering wheel, the Civic Si also features Bilstein shocks and Eibach springs, adjustable suspension, Momo wheels, and brakes by Wilwood (6-piston calipers up front, with two-piece at the rear).

The Team-Built Research Civic Si 

Officially known as the Team Honda Research West Civic Si Race Car, it will take part in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill race in December, and features a different set of upgrades.

In addition to the engine tune (this time from Hondata), the car sports an oil cooler, larger radiator, a custom intake, a titanium exhaust, a custom gear set, and brakes from Paragon. Bodywork-wise, the Team Honda Research West car gets a carbon hood and trunk from Seibon, as well as a GT250 rear ring from APR performance, and a custom splitter and air dam from Power Stream Industries.

While the Team Research car is a one-off, the HPD Civic Si Race Car Prototype previews a ready-to-race offering — however, prices as yet haven’t been announced.

HPD Accessories Coming To The 2022 Civic Si

In addition, Honda also announced that HPD and Honda Genuine Accessories have combined forces to enhance the sporty appearance of the all-new 2022 Civic Si. Built specifically for the 2021 SEMA Show, the modified sport sedan showcases accessories available for order from Honda dealerships, including aggressive underbody spoilers, HPD emblems, and more.
