Lamborghinis are known for being thirsty, but this one wasn’t interested in gasoline.
According to police in Austria, the incident occurred last night at approximately 10:50 p.m. when the 31 year old driver and a 40 year old passenger pulled into a parking lot alongside the Mondsee lake.
After the passenger exited the vehicle, the driver attempted to “turn his sports car” and “must have mixed up the brake and accelerator pedals.” As a result, he quickly accelerated in reverse and launched the car about 49 feet (15 meters) into the lake.

The car quickly began sinking, but the driver was able to free himself and swim to shore. After reaching land, the passenger called authorities and began rendering first aid to the driver. He was eventually taken to a hospital in Vöcklabruck with “injuries of an indeterminate degree.”
While we hope the driver is on the mend, police didn’t hesitate to joke at his expense. In a Facebook post, they said someone applied to be Daniel Craig’s successor, as James Bond, as they tried to “imitate the legendary Lotus Esprit” from The Spy Who Loved Me. In the movie, the Esprit doubled as a submarine and aided Bond in his efforts to battle Karl Stromberg.
Putting movie trivia aside, the car was submerged in approximately 16 feet (5 meters) of water. AFK Mondsee says the effort to recover the car required five divers, a recovery balloon, a crane from a tow truck and approximately three hours.
