Article has been updated with Chevy’s latest teaser and new information on the upcoming electric Silverado pickup truck on 10/6/2021.
Chevrolet will debut its 2022 Silverado EV at CES in January to underline how much technology is packed into its crucial new truck.
The world’s most important tech show, held annually in Las Vegas, will host the launch of Chevrolet’s rival to the Ford F-150 Lightning and give us a closer look at the optional fixed glass roof seen in the latest teaser.

Chevy says the available roof panel offers increased visibility (handy for UFO spotting, maybe?), extra headroom and “an enhanced experience of spaciousness for both front and rear passengers.” The automaker added that it’s the first time such a roof has been offered on a full-size GM pickup.
Also seen in the picture is what may be a massive, curved-style digital display spanning two-thirds of the length of the dashboard, apparently seamlessly incorporating the instrument panel and infotainment system.
What Else Do We Know About The Chevy’s Electric Pickup Truck?
The Silverado will be available in fleet and retail configurations and we know from previous teasers that it will have a 400-mile electric range and also be available with rear-axle steering like the Hummer EV.
The technology can make a big truck’s turning circle tighter by turning the rear wheels in the opposite direction of the fronts. It can also make the vehicle more stable on the highway by turning all four wheels in the same direction when you’re, say, changing lanes. The company also claims it gives a vehicle “great trailering dynamics.”
Whether or not the Chevy pickup will get the same Crab Mode as the Hummer remains to be seen, but the 24-inch wheels would suggest that this is more focused on the street than the Hummer, whose wheels are a much more reasonable 18-inches across. Surrounded by 35-inches of rubber, though, that truck is perfect for off-roading.
Chevy’s electric truck will be based on the same Ultium platform as the Hummer, though, and a previous teaser revealed that it would get more than 400 miles (644 km) of range. Power figures have not been revealed, but we know that the Hummer EV is capable of up to 1,000 hp (746 kW/1,014 PS).
“Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado — and more — and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike,” said Mark Reuss, GM’s president, in April.
Chevrolet hasn’t given a firm date for the Silverado EV’s arrival, but the company has said that it will be before 2025, with a launch possible sometime between late 2023 and early 2024. It will also be joined by a GMC Sierra EV, suggesting that it won’t just be a Hummer with a Chevy badge.
