The Mercedes-Maybach EQS concept recently debuted at the Munich Motor Show and it will be followed by a second “electric show car” on December 1st.
Set to be unveiled in conjunction with Art Basel Miami Beach, the mysterious model is known as “Project Maybach” and will be the result of a collaboration between Mercedes Chief Design Officer Gorden Wagener and fashion designer Virgil Abloh.
The pair previously teamed up to reimagine the G-Class as a motorsport-inspired model called Project Geländewagen. However, this year they’re turning their attention to Maybach as the brand is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Little is known about the concept at this point, but the automaker described it as “unlike anything previously seen from Mercedes-Benz.” The company went on to say the show car “exemplifies the possibility of design that is untethered by existing blueprints, or production specifications.”
That seems to suggest the concept will feature an adventurous design that presumably isn’t intended for production. This remains to be seen, but the concept won’t forget about Maybach’s core purpose as Wagener said it will be used to help “define the next level of luxury.”
For his part, Abloh said “The Maybach legacy celebrates exploration, pushing creativity to new places, living outside of the status quo. In this next phase we’re embracing these ideals and bringing the Mercedes-Maybach heritage into the future, inviting the next generation to join in revering this icon.”
