NIO’s European expansion has kicked off, with the Chinese electric car maker debuting the flagship ES8 SUV at the new NIO house in Oslo.
The launch took part on the 30th of September with preparations to open the Oslo NIO house to the public on October 1st. The NIO ES8 starts at NOK 609,000 ($69,500 converted) with the standard range 75kWh battery that offers 375 km (234 miles) of WLTP range and NOK 679,000 ($77,600) for the long-range 100kWh configuration that offers 500 km (313 miles) of WLTP range.
Users also have the option of purchasing a car without a battery and instead subscribing to batteries of various capacities for a monthly fee using NIO’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) option.
By subscribing for NOK 1,399 ($160) per month for a standard-range battery, users can save NOK 90,000 ($10,000) off of the purchase price. That saving rises to NOK 160,000 ($18,300) if purchasers opt for a long-range battery subscription at ($230) per month. By using BaaS, NIO intends to alleviate some of the concerns associated with EVs, including battery deterioration, inflexible capacity additions, and fluctuating resale value.

NIO will cover Norway’s five major cities with 20 Power Swap stations by the end of 2022, with the first station expected to be operational in October. Their service and delivery center will also be open for delivery, repair, mobile service fleet, and car pick-up and delivery services.
“Today marks a significant moment in the history of NIO”, Alexander Schwarz, NIO Europe’s CEO, stated. “Today the very first European users have the opportunity to experience what it means to be part of the NIO community”.
The Oslo NIO house is Norway’s largest user center, covering 2,100 square meters. It has a product and services display along with intriguing facilities exclusive to NIO users. The “Norway Collection,” which includes clothing and trinkets, designed in collaboration with Anette Moi and Sandra Blikås, is also now available in Norway and China.
“From our NIO Houses, such as the first one in Oslo, through to our battery swap stations, our worry-free Battery-as-a-Service subscription models and our convenient online services, Being part of the NIO community will bring joy, friendship, and meaningful interaction,” Schwarz added.
