Over 130,000 Ram pickup truck models from the 2021 and 2022 model years have been recalled over a fire risk.
The recall involves vehicles equipped with the Cummins 6.7-liter turbo-diesel. A notice issued by Stellantis states that vehicles with this unit may experience an engine compartment fire originating from the Solid State Intake Heater Grid Relay. Triggering a fire is a potential electric short in the relay.

Involved in the recall are 39,324 2021-2022 Ram 3500 models built between August 5, 2020 and October 8, 2021. A total of 67,597 examples of 2021-2022 Ram 2500 models are also involved and were built between August 3, 2020 and October 8, 2021. The 2021-2022 Ram 3500 Cab Chassis, totaling 7,317 units that were built between August 12, 2020 and October 7, 2021, have also been recalled, as have 2021-2022 Ram 4500/500 Cab Chassis models built between November 13, 2020 and October 8, 2021. A total of 131,177 vehicles are involved in the recall.
The car manufacturer began to investigate the issue on February 17, 2021 after noticing a trend of engine compartment fires. It soon discovered that all those vehicles were equipped with the Solid State Intake Heater Grid Relay.
Stellantis initially decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall in early March but just a couple of months later, became aware of a vehicle fire in a vehicle that had been recalled and repaired with a protected relay. It later became aware of a number of other fires in vehicles with protected relays, prompting this second recall.
