Refreshed MG ZS EV Debuts With A Grille-Less Look, New Infotainment And A Bigger Battery

Following the debut of the updated ICE-powered ZS, MG Motors unveiled the facelifted all-electric version of the ZS, featuring a grille-less look, new infotainment, and a larger battery pack option for an increased range.

The MG ZS EV first appeared in 2018 and quickly became popular thanks to its competitive pricing. The facelifted model will reach dealerships this November with the intention of making the electric SUV even more attractive to European buyers.

Design-wise, the ZS EV gets the new LED headlights and taillights of its ICE-powered sibling but adopts a different front bumper that distinguishes it further. The grille is fully covered with a new pattern while the side intakes are smaller giving the car a cleaner and more aerodynamic look.

Changes also include new wheel designs and a slightly different rear bumper without the decorative exhaust pipes of the regular version. Inside, the 10.1-inch touchscreen incorporates the new MG iSMART infotainment system with new features, remote control functions, and more connectivity options.

Setting aside the visual and technological updates, the most important change has to do with the new bigger 72 kWh battery pack offering a 273-mile (439 km) WLTP range. In 2022, MG will also offer a cheaper variant with a smaller 51 kWh battery pack offering a range of 198 miles (319 km).

Both of those ratings are significantly better compared to the pre-facelifted MG ZS EV which had an even smaller 44.5kWh battery good for 163 miles (262 km) of range. The facelifted model also supports faster charging. A full charge of the larger 71 kW battery takes only 42 minutes on a 100kW rapid charger or up to 10.5 hours on a standard 7kW charger.

MG will announce pricing in November 2021 when the facelifted MG ZS EV is expected to reach showrooms. Autocar reports that the long-range variant with the large battery will start from €34,990 ($40,475) while the cheaper version with the smaller battery will cost as low as €30,990 ($35,848).
