The Rolls-Royce Boat Tail celebrated its public debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este event on the shores of Lake Como over the weekend.

The car’s launch comes four years after the Rolls-Royce Sweptail was also showcased to the world for the very first time at Villa d’Este. Pictured next to Lake Como, it’s hard to deny that the Boat Tail is extremely striking, and considering that it reportedly cost $28 million, that’s exactly what it should be.

Rolls-Royce is building just three examples of the Boat Tail and the car brought to the Italian event was the first of these three. Underpinning the Boat Tail is the same Architecture of Luxury aluminum spaceframe platform as the current Rolls-Royce Phantom. While the platform isn’t new, every single body panel is.

The elongated tail of the car is what really makes it stand out and features a center-hinged decklid that opens up like the wings of a butterfly. Found beneath the decklid are two fridges and a bespoke cutlery and crockery set from Christofle. The decklid also houses a pair of small carbon fiber stools and a fancy umbrella.

Powering the Rolls-Royce Boat Tail is the British automaker’s familiar 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 pumping out 563 hp. The company hasn’t released key technical specifications of the car, such as how much it weighs nor how quickly it accelerates but for a vehicle like the Boat Tail, such figures are insignificant.
