Stellantis announced plans for a slew of new electric vehicles this summer, including an electric muscle car from Dodge and electric pickups from Ram.
An assortment of other eco-friendly models are also planned as the company expects more than 40% of its U.S. sales will come from electrified vehicles by 2030.
In order to meet that anticipated demand, the company is partnering with LG Energy Solution to establish a new battery manufacturing facility in North America. As part of a new joint venture, the firms will produce battery cells and modules starting in the first quarter of 2024.

The plant is slated to have an annual production capacity of 40 gigawatt hours and batteries built their will be supplied to Stellantis facilities across North America for installation in plug-in hybrids as well as electric vehicles. The companies are currently exploring where to build the factory, but a decision will likely come soon as a groundbreaking is expected to occur in the second quarter of next year.
In a statement, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said “Today’s announcement is further proof that we are deploying our aggressive electrification road map and are following through on the commitments we made during our EV Day event in July.” The executive added the new gigafactory will enable them to achieve a minimum of 260 gigawatt hours of capacity by 2030.
While Stellantis didn’t go into many specifics, Dodge’s first performance EV will arrive in 2024 and teasers have suggested it will borrow some cues from the 1968 Charger. The Ram 1500 EV is also expected to be launched around the same time.
