The ultimate version of the current generation 718 Cayman, the GT4 RS, is expected to debut in November and Porsche released an onboard video of the sportscar lapping the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
With a lap time of 7:04.511 for the 20.6 km track (7:09.300 for the full 20.832 km), the GT4 RS is 23.6 seconds faster than the already capable and track-focused GT4, making it the fastest ever Cayman.
Jörg Bergmeister, who set the impressive lap time and has spent more than 500 hours on the development of the car, said: “The 718 Cayman GT4 RS is an uncompromising driving machine. It feels as nimble as a go-kart on mountain roads, yet is impressively stable and well-balanced on the racetrack,” adding that the GT4 RS “is one of the sharpest cars Porsche has ever developed”.

This is the first time a member of the Cayman/Boxster family gets an RS version. Honoring the RS heritage, the ultimate Cayman will be lighter and more powerful with a more aggressive setup and increased downforce.
As we have seen from previous spy photographs the redesigned aero kit includes a more prominent splitter, additional slits on the bumper, vented hood, extra cooling intakes replacing the rear quarter windows, a new diffuser, and a big rear wing. The GT4 RS will also feature larger brakes and a more focused chassis and suspension setup.
The GT4 RS will be powered by an upgraded version of the naturally aspirated 4.0-liter boxer that will produce more than the 414 hp (309 kW / 420 PS) of the 718 Cayman GT4 but, in all likelihood, less than the 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) of the larger 911 GT3. In the official video, driver Jörg Bergmeister claims that the power increase over the GT4 is the most noticeable difference hinting at a healthy boost. Power will be sent to the rear wheels through a PDK gearbox.
