While some have criticized Lamborghini for tarnishing the Countach name with the introduction of the Aventador-based Countach LPI 800-4, it is impossible to make the same complaints about the company’s reconstruction of the original Countach LP500 Prototype.
This remarkable car was brought to life thanks to Lamborghini Centro Stile and the automaker’s Polo Storico department for a very special collector. It is basically an exact replica of the original Countach LP500 prototype that was unveiled in 1971 but later destroyed in 1974 during crash testing.
In creating the car, Lamborghini analyzed documents, photographs, meeting reports, and drawings of the original LP500 prototype and also used a 3D scan of an LP400 to replicate the car’s design. This modern-day Countach also features a new chassis that’s more advanced than the tubular frame of the production Countach.

Lamborghini showcased the car to the world at the Concourso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy over the weekend. It was one of the highlights of the event and is a breath of fresh air from all of the electrified supercars and hypercars that we have become accustomed to seeing launched in recent months.
Like the original, this reconstruction is equipped with a 4,971 cc V12 engine that sounds absolutely incredible. The interior is also an exact replica of the original and is vastly different than the production Countach thanks to the unique gauge cluster, steering wheel, and seats.
It remains unclear how much the car cost and while this video says it is worth $2.64 million, we suspect it was much more expensive than that.
