The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is the epitome of luxury in the German company’s range but with a price starting from over $200,000 for the V12-powered model, it is impossible for us mere mortals to afford one.
This, however, doesn’t mean you can’t pretend to own a Maybach thanks to a new Chinese bodykit designed specifically for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class L, which is the long-wheelbase version for China and India that stretches out to 199.4 inches or 5,065mm in length.
The package includes chrome intake surrounds, a slightly larger grille with vertical slats, Maybach’s emblems, side moldings, and more chrome on the decorative exhaust pipes and the rear bumper.
The upgrades are compatible with the pre-facelifted E-Class models sold between 2016 and 2020. The kit is currently available in Alibaba with a cost between $1,000 and $1,500, which is not bad if you consider that it will make your E-Class look like a $200k limousine.

A fully converted vehicle was spotted by Automobili Ardent at a gas station in Faridabad India. Besides the aforementioned bodykit, the owner of this E-Class decided to go all-in, adding a Maybach-style two-tone paint, a new set of wheels, and a pair of V12 badges on the front fenders.

As you can see from the visual comparison, the end result looks pretty convincing, with the E-Class bearing a close resemblance to the 2019 Mercedes-Maybach S560. Of course, a trained eye could spot the differences between the clone and the original which is quite larger and more luxurious, however most people would probably fall for it.
The reason it is so easy to transform an E-Class L to an S-Class lookalike has to do with the homogeneity of Mercedes’ sedan range in terms of styling and proportions. This applies to the new generation vehicles but it was even more evident a few years ago with both the W205 C-Class (2014-2021) and the W213 E-Class (2016-present) being largely inspired by the W222 S-Class (2014-2020) flagship.
Add to the above the fact that the Chinese and Indian market E-Class L takes this one step further with the Maybach-style extended rear window, and you have your answer why it’s so easy to replicate the flagship Merc’s looks on the luxury mid-size model.
