The long-awaited 2023 Corvette Z06 will be officially unveiled on October 26 and new spy shots have revealed that Chevrolet will follow up the Coupe model with a Convertible.
It doesn’t come as much of a surprise that the new Z06 will be available in Coupe and Convertible configurations as the C7 Z06 was also available in both body styles too. It is not yet clear when the C8 Z06 Convertible will premiere, but for reference, there were only three months between the reveal of the C7 Z06 Coupe and the Z06 Convertible in early 2015.
This particular prototype was scooped testing near GM’s proving grounds in Milford, Michigan and features the same new features as the Z06 Coupe. For example, the rear end features a center-mounted four-tailpipe exhaust system much like the C7 Corvette that immediately makes the car stand out from lesser variants. Elsewhere, it can be seen sporting the same front bumper as the Z06 Coupe.

From a mechanical standpoint, the new Z06 Convertible should be virtually identical to the Coupe. As such, it will be fitted with a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8 like the one in the C8.R race car. This engine will be good for around 617 hp and 480 lb-ft (651 Nm) of torque, significant gains over the 495 hp and 470 lb-ft of the standard C8 Corvette Stingray.
It isn’t just a new engine that promises to transform the Z06 Convertible. Like the Coupe, it could be offered in two aerodynamic configurations, including one with a large fixed rear wing. A plethora of suspension and brake modifications are to be expected to make the car that much more capable on a race track.
