For the first time ever, a BMW will be available to Rocket League’s players. For sale in the game store starting on November 4, players will be able to buy the 2022 BMW M240i for just one week. The automaker also announced that it is sponsoring an in-game tournament.
“For the first time, we are bringing our own car to the pitch,” said Stefan Ponikva, VP of BMW Brand Communication and Experience. “The driving characteristics of the new BMW M240i make it a brilliant fit for Rocket League and Esports as a whole.” Along with the car, BMW is also offering a “United in Rivalry” livery to players.
Powered by an inline-six engine that makes 369 hp (374 PS/274 kW) in Europe and 382 hp (285 kW / 387 PS) for the U.S. market, the M240i is currently the most powerful second-generation 2-Series.

Expected to hit showrooms this month in the U.S., the M240i makes use of BMW’s xDrive AWD system and power is funneled through an eight-speed automatic transmission, all of which is good enough to get the car to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 4.1 seconds and onto a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h). Unfortunately, in real life it does not get the Rocket League version’s rocket boosters.
Along with adding its first vehicle to the game, BMW Esports has also announced that it will be the title sponsor for the BMW Rocket League Open, which is apparently one of the most important events in the Rocket League Championship Series and runs on November 6 and 7.
A BMW Freestyle Tournament will precede it, starting on November 4, and will feature the BMW M240i exclusively. The winner of the event will get a grand prize of $25,000, while the winner of the BMW Rocket League Open will get a total prize fund of $100,000.
“Flying, rocket-powered cars that you can play football with is something that I dreamed about when I was young,” said Ponikva. “I’m confident that Rocket League gamers – both amateurs and pros alike – will have a great deal of fun with the car.”
