Lamborghini’s Huracan STO has been generating a lot of buzz as one of the finest cars of the year. Designed to handle a track, how does it do on a drag strip?
YouTube’s Schmee150 decided to pit it against a Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series to see how well it would fare. Powered by a 5.2-liter, naturally aspirated V10 that churns out 640 hp (649 PS/477 kW), it’s nevertheless down on power compared to the AMG GT Black Series in this video.
The modified Mercedes makes a whopping 850 hp (862 PS/634 kW) from its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 thanks to a tune by Opus. It’s also on sticky Michelin Cup 2 R tires, which will no doubt help through the quarter-mile.

Is it too early to call the Lamborghini’s V10 legendary? At any rate, it acquits itself well here, no doubt thanks to being mounted amidship. Easily capable of jumping the front-engined Mercedes off the line, it comes down to the latter’s torque to try and reel the Lamborghini in before the finish line.
In the end, the modified Mercedes wins two out of three races in this competition, which is kind of impressive considering the initial advantage of the Lambo, but according to its driver, it was a wild ride. “It’s like a whole theater production in one launch control. Everything is going on and by the time you realize that you’re actually doing about 100 mph, you’re whole body is moving around like this,” he says jumping. “I couldn’t believe how much it bounces around.”
The AMG GT Black Series’ wave of torque, though, is irrepressible. I guess there is a replacement for displacement: turbos and tunes.
