The luxury minivan segment is blossoming in Asia with Voyah, Dongfeng’s luxury arm, presenting a brand new and fully electric model called the Dreamer. Voyah’s second model made its premiere at the 2021 Guangzhou Auto Show with a market launch expected in 2022.
The Voyah Dreamer has a typical minivan (or MPV for Euro readers) silhouette with a pronounced bonnet, sliding doors, large glass surfaces, and chrome accents for a premium feel. Similar to the Lexus LM, the front end is dominated by a massive grille that strongly reminds us of those exaggerated BMW kidney grilles in hilarious memes that have been making the internet rounds. Apparently, no one seems to have gotten the memo that we were only kidding – BMW itself, included, judging by the upcoming XM Concept.
Back to the Dreamer, the rear end is properly flat but it comes with a black spoiler, horizontally-mounted LED taillights and a sporty rear bumper.

The minivan has quite a generous footprint measuring 5,315 mm (209.3 inches) long, 1,980 mm (78 inches) wide, and 1,810 mm (71.3 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm (126 inches). This makes it larger than the aforementioned Lexus LM and the Buick GL8 Avenir.
In terms of technology, the Dreamer has nothing in common with the 12 minivans listed on Dongfeng’s global website. Instead, it sits on the newer Electric Smart Secure Architecture (ESSA) which is shared with the Voyah Free SUV. Like its SUV sibling, the MPV will be available in both BEV and PHEV variants.
Voyah didn’t provide details on the Dreamer’s specs, but the mechanically related Free is fitted with an 88kWh battery and dual electric motors producing 684 hp (510 kW / 693 PS) of power and 1,040 Nm (767 lb-ft) of torque in the fully electric AWD flagship variant. This configuration – if confirmed – would make the Dreamer a true sleeper, and one of the fastest MPVs on sale.

The interior has been inspired by luxury sedans with a full-width digital panel on the dashboard and an opulent 2+2 configuration making for an impressive amount of legroom. The individual heated, ventilated and massaging seats have reclining footrests while there is a touchscreen between them so the rear passengers can control all functions. In front of them, there is a panel with integrated HVAC controls and speakers.
The blue and white upholstery of the presentation vehicle is combined with gold and glossy black accents that seem a bit too much, especially with the teal ambient lighting. During the day, the panoramic sunroof and huge windows are shedding plenty of light in the cabin.
Following the Free SUV that went on sale last summer, the Dreamer will be available in China from early 2022. The next step for Voyah will be a fully electric sedan previewed by the iLand concept last year, that is expected to arrive by 2023.
