There’s no shortage of EV startups and one of the latest is EdisonFuture, which is looking to make a splash at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Sporting a unique design, the company’s EF1-T pickup and EF1-V delivery van aim to compete in a growing segment with far more established competitors.

While the models face an uphill battle, the EF1-T is notable for offering an optional solar cover that extends to enclose the 6.5- or 8-foot bed. It can then retract, when you need to haul cargo.

EdisonFuture didn’t say much else about the truck, but it features slender LED headlights, streamlined bodywork and flush-mounted door handles. Other highlights include power deployable side steps, T-shaped taillights, and digital side mirrors that display a live video feed on 7-inch displays in the interior.

Speaking of the cabin, it features seating for six as well as a 17.5-inch infotainment system. They’re joined by a digital instrument cluster, an ambient lighting system, and “aluminum-clad toolboxes” that are housed in the door panels and can be removed. Another interesting touch are the mosaic solar panels that are mounted on top of the dashboard.

Details are limited, but EdisonFuture says the EF1-T will be available in three different configurations. The entry-level Standard is slated to have a single electric motor that enables the truck to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in less than 6.5 seconds. The model is also said to have a range of 300 miles (483 km) and a towing capacity of 7,500+ lbs (3,402+ kg).

Upgrading to the Premium trim will reward buyers with a dual motor powertrain that cuts the 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time to under 4.5 seconds. This version is also said to have a range of 380 miles (612 km) and a towing capacity of 9,000+ lbs (4,082+ kg).

Lastly, there’s a tri-motor Super variant which will reportedly rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. The company also claims the truck will have a range of 450 miles (724 km) and a towing capacity of 11,000+ lbs (4,990+ kg).

The EF1-V is essentially the same thing as the EF1-T, but it eschews the truck bed for a covered cargo compartment with sliding doors. It also features a simplified powertrain lineup with single and dual motor configurations.

The company hasn’t said when the vehicles will be launched, but it’s more likely a question of if, rather than when.
