Hyundai is apparently getting ready to update the Ioniq 5 with a larger battery pack, less than a year after it arrived in select markets.
A report from Korea claims that the updated Ioniq 5 now features no less than 32 2.4 kW battery modules, as opposed to the 30 modules of current models sold in Europe and Asia. This will increase battery capacity from 72.6 kWh to 77.4 kWh. This update makes sense as the Kia EV6, which is based on the same E-GMP platform as the Ioniq 5, will launch with a 77.4 kWh battery pack.
ET News asserts that the larger battery will see the Ioniq 5’s range in the South Korean market swell from 423 km (268 miles) to between 480 and 490 km (298 – 304.5 miles).

Interestingly, we have known about the Ioniq 5 adopting a larger battery since May when it was confirmed that U.S. market models would have a 77.4 kWh pack. By comparison, Ioniq 5 models currently sold in other markets are available in 58 kWh and 72.6 kWh guises.
A number of over-the-air updates are also said to be coming for the Ioniq 5, with key upgrades concerning the infotainment and driver-assistance systems. An over-the-air update could also enable a V2G (Vehicle to Grid) function that will allow owners to feed energy back into the electrical grid.
The U.S. range will start with a variant powered by a single rear-mounted motor with 225 hp and 258 lb-ft. Hyundai expects this model to offer a range of 300 miles (482 km). A dual-motor model with all-wheel drive and a combined 320 hp and 446 lb-ft will also be available. The range of dual-motor Ioniq 5 will vary between 244 miles (392 km) and 269 miles (433 km) depending on the trim level.
