The Opel Kadett is one of the automaker’s most long-standing vehicles, produced between 1936 and 1940 and then from 1962 until 1991 (1993 for the Cabrio), and a particularly neat example has just come across our desks.

This particular Kadett is a 1990 model and is a GSi model which effectively served as Opel’s rival to the VW Golf GTI of the day. Power comes courtesy of a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine with 8 valves, producing 116 hp back in the day. A more powerful 16-valve, twin-cam version of this engine delivering 150 hp and 144 lb-ft (196 Nm) of torque was also offered for the Kadett GSi.

Unlike most modern hatches, the 1990 Kadett is a three-door and is relatively small. It’s also light as it weighs a mere 940 kg (2,072 lbs), allowing it to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in 9 seconds and reach a 124 mph (200 km/h) top speed.

This Kadett GSi is being sold through Gallery Aaldering in the Netherlands and looks to be in excellent condition, even though it has been driven 150,695 km (93,637 miles). The dark green paintwork has been well maintained and the silver wheels are free of any damage.

It is a similar story in the cabin where the black leather has been cared for. The interior also features an LCD instrument cluster which was well ahead of its time when the Kadett launched. The car’s original radio still works.

The car isn’t cheap, however. In fact, it has an asking price of €12,950 ($14,860). Would you be willing to pay that much for a 31-year-old “hot” hatch with just 116 hp?
