The Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider takes an already rare car and makes it even more desirable. Or does it?

The British car manufacturer originally intended on building just 150 examples of the Valkyrie, selling it exclusively as a Coupe. It didn’t take long for those 150 units to be sold. However, a few months ago, Aston Martin unexpectedly took off the covers to the Valkyrie Spider. We suspect this rubbed a few Valkyrie Coupe customers the wrong way as their cars are no longer as rare as they once were but as a piece of design, the Valkyrie Spider is quite something.

Top Gear recently had the opportunity to check out the car in person and notes that with the Spider’s roof fixed in place, it is just as aerodynamically efficient as the Coupe. That’s very important as aerodynamics is perhaps the most important aspect of the Valkyrie. The roof panels of the Spider are also see-through, giving the cabin of the hypercar some extra light.

The process of removing the carbon fiber roof is very simple and only requires customers to unclip a couple of latches. Once the roof is removed, it’s inevitable that the aural experience will be even more exceptional than the Coupe, allowing customers to experience the high-revving 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 in all its glory.

Top Gear editor Jack Rix notes that Aston Martin never originally intended on producing the Valkyrie as a Spider. However, once former AMG boss Tobias Moers took charge of the company, he decided that building 85 Spider variants would help the automaker recoup some of the development costs that were required to bring the Valkyrie to life.
