It is, at this point, a cliché to point out that if you’re at a Cars and Coffee and you see a Ford Mustang leaving the show, you should run in the other direction. But do they deserve to be the only cars that are the butts of jokes online?
A collection of posts showing Dodge crashes has slowly been forming and, although it was removed, a recent post featuring a Charger crashing into (plot twist) another Charger recently appeared on the Mustang Crashes subreddit. The moderators are, in my view, needlessly limiting themselves here.

The Mustang and Dodge’s Challenger and Charger muscle cars are more similar than different. They all have big powerful V8s, they all appeal to classic American performance vehicles buyers, they all (traditionally) send heaps and heaps of power to the rear wheels, and they’re all more than capable of getting their driver into a lot of trouble.
Moreover, despite being quite old (it was launched in 2008 and facelifted for the 2015MY), the Challenger has proven to be popular with buyers. So much so, that in the first 10 months of the year it outsold the Mustang, with 44,142 sales vs. 41,035 for the Ford. And since many of them are around, the chances of someone getting it wrong definitely rise.
Personally, I think that perhaps we should also include the Camaro here. Although the most recent viral video featuring a Camaro shows it successfully doing gas pump gymkhana, the very concept of “gas pump gymkhana” is so explosively ill-advised that it ranks among the videos that warrant viral fame.
Indeed, all of the muscle and pony cars on sale today feature high power and a promise of performance that could lull even the most level-headed among us into misbehaving. More importantly, there’s evidence of them all getting into trouble. I believe maybe it’s time we expanded Mustang memes to include all pony car memes. What do you think?
