Porsche announced today that it is expanding the range of digital exhibits at the Porsche Museum. Now, anyone who wants to, regardless of physical location, can take a tour of the museum’s special exhibition, “50 Years of Porsche Development Weissach.”
The 12-minute tour is offered in German and English and is led by a trained museum guide, who provides insights into the beginnings and development of Porsche’s legendary Weissach development site, which is the birthplace of all “Porsche sports cars,” the brand says.
Facts and stories are used to present the various sections of the special exhibition. Among them is the “First Steps” section, which covers the origins of the Development Center and the ground-breaking ceremony in 1961.

At the “Test Bench” station, meanwhile, visitors are given insights into everything employees do at test benches. There are also sections covering design, motorsports, and Porsche engineering, which feature stories from inside the factory, as well as covering vehicles and innovations brought into existence thanks to Weissach.
Featuring historical footage and stories from Porsche’s history, the tour covers the development of things like the Tag Turbo engine, which powered McLaren’s F1 cars from 1984 to 1986. There are also less famed examples of the engineering work coming from Weissach, like the C88, a car designed for the Chinese market.
An excellent resource (or diversion) for fans of Porsche, the tour provides a great insight into the history of Porsche and, more specifically, its Weissach site. Those interested in taking the digital tour can do so via the museum’s website, on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
