A one-of-a-kind 1988 Cizeta-Moroder V16T prototype is heading to auction in January and is one of the most intriguing supercars launched in recent decades.
The V16T was brought to life thanks to engineer Claudio Zampolli, music composer Giorgio Moroder and a group of ex-Lamborghini employees. It was designed by Marcello Gandini, the man behind the likes of the Lamborghini Diablo, Miura, and Countach.

Similarities to the Diablo are immediately apparent at the front end but the rest of the design is unique and still stands out to this day. As for the ‘V16T’ name? Well, that comes from the fact that the car is powered by a 6.0-liter V16 engine that uses parts from the Lamborghini Urraco’s flat-plane crank V8 and is coupled to a five-speed manual transmission.
This particular example is chassis number 001 and was first shown to the public at an event in Los Angeles on December 5, 1988. It was later displayed at the Los Angeles and Geneva Motor Shows in 1989 and is differentiated from the production models thanks to a handful of unique elements. For example, it has larger side air intakes and has a unique interior.
RM Sotheby’s is handling the sale of the car and notes that it has been comprehensively restored by Bruce Canepa. Just 10 examples of the V16T were ever produced, including this one, and it has been owned since new by Giorgio Moroder, the music producer that helped make it a reality.
