Before cars were S3XY, Dodge was all about Swingers and ‘69.
That’s certainly the case with this Dart Swinger 340 concept, which originally debuted at the 1969 Chicago Auto Show.
Set to be auctioned by Mecum in January, the concept was designed and built by the Alexander Brothers customization shop in conjunction with Chrysler. As a result, it’s a bit of a precursor to modern SEMA concepts.

Looking virtually brand new, the concept has been given a “comprehensive restoration” to return it to its former glory. The listing is light on specifics, but the car features an eye-catching maroon metallic paint job with black tail stripes. The model also sports square headlights and circular fog lights.
Other notable features include a quick release hood and a prominent scoop. They’re joined by Ansen Sprint aluminum wheels that are wrapped in Goodyear Polyglas tires.
The interior appears to be in great shape and it features black bucket seats that are separated by a Hurst shifter. We can also see a wood-trimmed three-spoke steering wheel, analog gauges and a radio delete.
As the name suggests, the car is equipped with a 340 cubic inch (5.6-liter) V8 engine that features a four-barrel carburetor. It presumably produces the same 275 hp (205 kW / 279 PS) as the standard Dart Swinger. Regardless of the number, it’s connected to a four-speed manual and drivers will also find power steering as well as power brakes.
There’s no auction estimate, but Classic.com notes the car was last sold in 2019 for $110,000 (£81,940 / €95,715).
