The teaser video doesn’t give us a look at the flagship variant of the Ranger family but it does provide us with an excellent chance to hear its engine. Whereas the previous-generation Ranger Raptor was equipped with a relatively lackluster twin-turbocharged diesel, the soundtrack in this teaser is clearly that of a petrol engine.
Ford has yet to confirm what engine will power the new Ranger Raptor. However, many reports suggest it will be the same 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged petrol V6 as the Explorer ST, complete with the same 400 hp and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque. Another possible option is the 2.7-liter twin-turbocharged V6 from the Bronco, where it pumps out 330 hp and 415 lb-ft (563 Nm) of torque.
Various other upgrades will be made to the Ranger Raptor. For example, it will feature flared fenders, a unique front fascia with an aggressive grille, and various suspension upgrades to enhance its off-roading abilities. The 10-speed automatic transmission from the Explorer ST is also expected to be the sole gearbox option.
