Say hello to a special Chevrolet affectionately named the ‘789.’ If you’re a fan of custom builds, this creation could be right up your alley.
The car was featured on a recent episode of Barcroft Cars and is owned by a Californian guy by the name of Gene Langmesser. It is a custom build in the truest sense of the term and looks unlike anything else on the road.
Langmesser reveals that the car is based on the chassis of a Chevrolet Camaro and that he took design inspiration from 1957, 1958, and 1959 Chevrolet models. More specifically, the front end is inspired by the ’57 Chevrolet Bel Air, the doors and side moldings are drawn from the ’58 Impala, and the rear-end features a similar ‘Bird in Flight’ rear-end of the ’59 Impala, hence the 789 name.

All of the body panels were crafted from carbon fiber before a layer of fiberglass was applied to provide a better surface for the paint. Speaking of the paint, it is a mixture of grey and yellow and various other parts are finished in eye-catching chrome.
As the car is based on a Camaro, it has a familiar interior but some of the parts have been re-trimmed in new leather. The powertrain is also sourced from a Camaro, meaning there is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 under the sculpted hood that drives the rear wheels.
The owner says it often takes him 20-25 minutes to stop for gas because of how many people are gawking at the car and taking pictures. Can’t really blame them…
