Bruce Canepa owns one a hugely impressive collection of classic racing cars and recently headed out onto the street with his rare 1984 Lancia LC2.

The LC2 was built for the World Sportscar Championship and Group C regulations and while it may not be as iconic in motorsport circles as some of Lancia’s best-known rally cars, it is an impressive creation in its own right.

As Lancia was part of the Fiat Group at the time and was in desperate need of an engine for the project, Ferrari provided it with the 3.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 it had introduced in the 308 GTBi QV in 1982. This engine was overhauled, its capacity was reduced to 2.6-litersm and it was also fitted with two KKK turbochargers. In 1984, the engine’s displacement increased back to 3.0-liters to improve reliability and horsepower. LC2 models like Canepa’s example pumped out around 840 hp at 9,000 rpm and 800 lb-ft (1,084 Nm) of torque at 4,800 rpm.

Just seven examples of the Lancia LC2 were ever built. The cars competed in 51 races, claimed 13 pole positions, and walked away with three victories.

Details about the Lancia LC2 owned by Bruce Canepa are limited but during this video, we get to see him driving it on suburban roads before hitting the highway. He is more than willing to floor the throttle on a handful of occasions, unleashing all of the V8’s grunt.
