Not long after sales of the 2022 Hyundai Elantra N kicked off in the U.S., the sporty sedan has also touched down in Australia where it is dubbed the i30 Sedan N.
Powering the latest addition to Hyundai’s burgeoning N range is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 276 hp (206 kW) and 289 lb-ft (392 Nm) of torque. This is the same engine as the i30 N hatch and the Kona N crossover and can be coupled to either a six-speed manual or an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
As with other N models, i30 Sedan Ns equipped with the dual-clutch include Hyundai’s N Grin Shift, N Power Shift, and N Track Sense Shift functions. The gearbox also includes a ‘Creep Off’ function that helps to mimic the feeling of a traditional torque converter at slow speeds. Power is sent to the pavement through an electronically controlled limited-slip differential.

Hyundai i30 Sedan N models heading Down Under have received unique suspension tuning for the Normal and Sport settings to suit local road conditions, while in N mode the electronically controlled suspension has the same tune as it does in all other markets. All models sold in Australia are equipped with 245/19 Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires.
A number of important safety features come standard as part of Hyundai’s SmartSense suite. These include Blind-spot Collision-avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, High Beam Assist, Lane Following Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Occupant Alert, and Safe Exit Warning.
Aussie buyers can purchase the i30 Sedan N in Polar White, Cyber Grey, Fluid Metal, Phantom Black, Performance Blue, Fiery Red, or Intense Blue. The car will only be sold in high-end Premium spec with the only available options being a AU$495 ($352) metallic paint and a AU$2,000 ($1,422) sunroof.
Local pricing for the i30 Sedan N starts at AU$49,000 ($34,849) before on-road costs, equating to AU$54,130 ($38,498) driveaway. To put that price into perspective, an i30 N Premium hatchback starts at AU$47,500 ($33,782) and AU$52,799 ($37,551) after on-road costs, while the Kona N Premium starts at AU$50,500 ($35,916) and $56,194 ($39,966) driveway.
