Time-capsules are quite popular these days and this Toyota Pickup from 1993 is a fitting example. Despite its age, the model only has 94 miles (151 km) on the odometer, and its showroom condition means it could gather lots of interest when it goes under the hammer by Mecum auctions in Kissimmee this January.

As noted by our colleagues at Japanese Nostalgic Car, the exact same vehicle was auctioned on eBay last September, changing hands for $45,100. Back then it had 84 miles (135 km) which means the current owner ranked up 10 miles (16 km) in their truck before putting it up for sale.

According to the description on the original listing, the pickup was bought new from Gorham, New Hampshire in 1993. Its first owner drove it home and for unknown reasons left it there for around three decades before it was discovered as a barn find in 2021. The pickup has kept all of its original components besides the battery, fuel tank, fuel pump, oil filters, and Goodyear AT tires that were replaced in order for it to get back on the road.

The fifth-generation Toyota Hilux – known as the Toyota Pickup in the US market – was introduced in 1988 and received a facelift in 1991. The pictured model is a 1993 example with a single cab body, chrome-finished bumpers, Forest Green Metallic exterior shade, and Gray cloth interior.

Under the bonnet, there is a bulletproof naturally aspirated 22R-E 2.4-liter four-cylinder petrol engine producing 113 hp (84 kW / 114 PS) and 192 Nm (142 lb-ft) of torque that hasn’t really see any action since it left the factory. As hinted by the 4WD lettering on the mudguards, power is sent to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.

The 1993 Toyota Pickup will be offered by Mecum Auctions in Kissimmee, sometime between January 6-16. We will keep an eye on this one to see how expensive a brand-new old-generation Hilux could get in 2022.
