For owners of supercars and hypercars, there is nothing quite like the German autobahn as it is one of the few places where it is actually legal to explore their cars’ top speed.
Last month, Radim Passer, the owner of a Bugatti Chiron, headed to an unrestricted section of the autobahn near Wittenburg. This isn’t the first time Passer has hit this section of the autobahn in a Bugatti. Six years ago, he drove his Veyron along the same piece of tarmac, hitting a cool 250 mph (402 km/h).

The test started early in the morning when there was very little traffic and when presented with a straight piece of road stretching 10 km (nearly 6 miles) into the distance, Passer hit the throttle of the Chiron and started to build up speed at an incredible rate. He was ultimately able to hit 257 mph (414 km/h), just shy of the French hypercar’s limited top speed of 261 mph (420 km/h).
While impressive, it is worth mentioning that this figure was recorded from the car’s speedometer and not a GPS recording device, meaning it isn’t completely accurate. Nevertheless, reaching such an incredible speed on a public road is an impressive feat.
Of course, the ‘standard’ Chiron is not the fastest variant available. That title is held by the Super Sport 300+ that can hit 304.773 mph (490.4 km/h), although customer examples are electronically limited to 273 mph (440 km/h).
