Ford has stopped taking orders for the Maverick Hybrid and won’t accept new ones until summer 2022, according to a new report.

The new Ford Maverick has hit the market with a lot of fanfare and the Hybrid variant is proving particularly popular. In mid-November, a forum member at the Maverick Truck Club revealed that a Ford representative had informed them that order books were closed for the 2022 Maverick Hybrid on November 15 and that new orders will not be accepted until the 2023 model launches next year.

More recently, a member of the Maverick Chat forum stated that Ford has updated its ordering system and that it is no longer even possible for dealers to place an order.

Ford hasn’t provided an official explanation as to why it has stopped accepting orders for the Maverick Hybrid but most believe it is due to a combination of factors, most notably the ongoing semiconductor shortage and strong demand for the pickup truck. It also seems likely that the Maverick has proven to be more popular that Ford had anticipated. Between the vehicle’s unveiling in early June and the third week of August, more than 100,000 reservations for the truck were placed.

Interestingly, the Maverick Hybrid isn’t being stocked on dealership lots and will only be shipped when ordered by a customer, meaning you can’t rock up to a showroom hoping to get an ex-demo.

Powering the Maverick Hybrid is a 2.5-liter petrol four-cylinder engine that operates alongside an electric motor for a combined output of 191 hp. Power is sent exclusively to the front wheels thanks to a continuously variable transmission.
