How About A Sustainable Lamborghini Bag Or Smartphone Case Out Of Reclaimed Leather And Fabrics?

Cartiera, a fashion enterprise that uses reclaimed leather and fabrics and hails from Emilia-Romagna, the same region of north Italy as Lamborghini, has partnered with the Italian automaker to make bags and other accessories.

The partnership will allow Lamboghini to avoid throwing leather parts left over from production into a landfill as Cartiera will make use of material that might be too small or imperfect to be used within a vehicle.

The “Upcycled Leather Project” will start out with four products: a tote bag, a smartphone case, a card holder, and a key fob, all of which are being customized with the Automobili Lamborghini shield logo.

Customers can choose a color or select “non-choice”. In that case, the color is randomly selected based on available shades, which means that more of the leather can be recycled. The products will be available in a number of colors, though availability will depend on the leather that is recovered from Lamborghini.

The accessories line joins two more recycling endeavors started by Lamborghini in 2020 which allowed the company to divert up to 56 percent of certain waste products from landfills and find a second use for them.

Leather, in particular, is a point of recent concern. Automotive leather has been tied to illegal farming operations in Brazil that are leading to the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. The area is an important carbon sink and the continued razing of the forest for cattle is accelerating climate change.

Lamborghini’s recycled leather goods are available via the automaker’s online store and at select Lamborghini dealers.
