Massachusetts State Police have released footage that shows authorities tracking down and arresting five suspects thanks to a police helicopter equipped with a thermal camera.
The incident happened during the early hours of December 23 when police were alerted to a stolen vehicle. They quickly deployed the air wing and were able to locate the vehicle. A chase soon ensued between the driver of the stolen vehicle and officers on the ground. The pursuit was terminated due to the safety threat posed to the public.

However, while the thieves probably though they were scot-free, the helicopter continued to follow them and deployed its Forward Looking InfraRed (FLIR) thermal camera system. Footage shows the stolen vehicle parking in a community in Brockton before five individuals can be seen exiting it. Soon after, they can be seen running towards a wooded area and after running for roughly 10 minutes, the individuals were unpleasantly surprised when two patrol cars pulled up nearby.
The Massachusetts State Police has confirmed that all five suspects were arrested thanks to the use of the helicopter but haven’t revealed if they were charged or not.
If anything, this video shows that there is virtually no way to escape from a police helicopter or a police airplane, no matter how clever you may think you are.
