If you’ve been anxiously awaiting your chance to get behind the wheel of the McLaren Artura, we have some bad news for you as the model has been delayed for the third time.
According to Automotive News, deliveries of the plug-in hybrid supercar have been delayed until July of 2022 as the company is reportedly “prioritizing its limited chip supply toward production of higher-margin models, such as the Elva and 765LT Spider.”
While McLaren didn’t confirm the latter, spokesman Roger Ormisher told the publication, “We held on longer than everybody else in terms of stopping production, but unfortunately, our semiconductor supply dried up.” As a result, McLaren production has been reduced and the Artura has been delayed yet again.

Thankfully, this is only temporary as Ormisher said things are “starting to come back a little bit.” However, the ongoing chip crisis is expected to continue into 2022 and possibly into 2023.
Putting the delay aside, the McLaren Artura was introduced in February as the brand’s “first-ever series-production high-performance hybrid supercar.” It’s also the first model to ride on the all-new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which has been designed specifically with hybrid powertrains in mind.
Speaking of the latter, the Artura has a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine, an electric motor, and a 7.4 kWh battery pack that provides an electric-only range of approximately 19 miles (31 km). Despite its eco-friendly nature, the powertrain isn’t short on performance as it produces a combined output of 671 hp (500 kW / 680 PS) and 531 lb-ft (720 Nm) of torque. This enables the $225,000 supercar to accelerate from 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 3.0 seconds and hit an electronically limited top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h).
