Gravity, a New York City taxi startup, wants to go green with a fleet of electric cabs. Its first, a Ford Mustang Mach-E, has already hit the streets of Manhattan.
Available to be hailed on the street or through a standard yellow taxi app, the Mach-E is finished in Rally Yellow and comes equipped with dynamic passenger controls, including a 22-inch display screen. Through it, passengers can take selfies, listen to music, or watch videos. Driver-facing artificial intelligence technology, meanwhile, identifies and prevents distraction, the company says.
“We’ve designed our fleet to be the smartest, safest, and most sustainable taxi to ever hit the road – something any New Yorker or visitor would be excited to flag down,” said Moshe Cohen, founder and CEO of Gravity, Inc. “We want our advanced EV fleet to not only help reinvigorate the NYC yellow taxi but help reenergize the city and pull it toward a cleaner future.”

This is the first Mustang Mach-E to ever serve as a yellow taxi in New York City, but it won’t be the last as Gravity plans to build a fleet of 50 electric vehicles, though some of them will be Teslas.
The Model Y is currently undergoing final hack-up inspection and the company says that all of its EVs will be charged overnight at its midtown Manhattan charging space on West 42nd Street.
All the company’s vehicles will also have a panoramic sunroof to allow customers to see New York’s skyline, and Gravity says the vehicles are authorized for use as cabs under an EV pilot program adopted by NYC’s Taxi and Limousine Commission.
All rides will be priced at standard NYC yellow taxi rates, preventing customers from having to deal with surge or premium rates.
