First responders put their lives on the line to help others, but this time it was the chief of the Monsey, New York Fire Department that needed assistance.
As you can see in this security camera video, the chief was responding to a call when he hit a patch of ice. While he doesn’t appear to have been traveling fast, the Chevrolet Tahoe slid into what appears to be an embankment.
This caused the vehicle to roll over, before coming to a rest on its roof. The clip ends shortly thereafter, although Monsey.info reports the chief was uninjured.

While that’s good news, photos from the scene reveal extensive damage to the Tahoe. Besides the expected damage to the roof, the front and rear driver’s side fenders were smashed and one of the rear side windows was broken. The driver’s side mirror was also destroyed, while the airbags deployed (and presumably worked as intended).
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released some winter driving tips as there were approximately 182,000 police-reported crashes in 2019 during wintry conditions. Their key recommendation is to slow down as wintry conditions can make it hard to stop.
The NHTSA also reminds drivers to make sure their tires are properly inflated and their vehicle is in good working condition. Drivers should also remove snow and ice from their vehicle and, as always, follow the traffic rules.
