A few days ago, Porsche unveiled the Vision GT, a virtual racecar for the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 that will be released on March 4, 2022. Today, the automaker published a new video taking us through the design process of the concept car and introducing us to its designers.
The team that was involved with the project consisted of five people with diverse backgrounds but a common passion for gaming. For example, exterior designer Fabian Schmolz is inspired by ceramics, visualization specialist Pegah Vaezzadeh talks about his love for photography, while interior designer Salar Vakili likes to draw non-car-related objects and people during his free time.

Doeke de Valle who was responsible for the interior added that it was important for the team members to have different backgrounds and mindsets while being connected to gaming and motorsports. Ingo Bauer Scheinhutte, who was responsible for the exterior design, said that their goal was to create a car that every player could take seriously and feel comfortable with.
Besides being Porsche’s first concept car exclusively designed for Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo, the Vision GT is also an important design study for the future of Porsche’s electric sports cars. As suggested by the designers, the vehicle had to be compact in dimensions, lightweight, and efficient while incorporating the design language of Porsche.
During Vision GT’s launch, Peter Varga, Director of Exterior Design at Porsche AG, said: “The Porsche Vision Gran Turismo is more than just a gaming fantasy. It is a realistic look into the future that will definitely help us with development in the years ahead”. Those words suggest that the lines of the concept car could be interpreted in a future production sportscar, although in a more subtle manner since the extreme proportions of the Vision GT would be too extreme outside the digital tracks of Gran Turismo.
