While we largely focus on new cars, we’re also huge fans of classics and that brings us to our latest question of the day: Which 1980s or 1990s model would you be willing to use as a daily driver today?

I’m a bit biased here, as I own vehicles from both decades, and used a 1983 Jeep CJ7 as my daily driver up until the early 2000s. Poorly modified by previous owners, it combined a gas guzzling 5.9-liter V8 with a three-speed manual and a gearing ratio worthy of a golf cart.

It was slow, thirsty, and uncomfortable, with a climate control system that was so bad the inside of the windshield would occasionally ice up while driving. Despite that and a million other issues, I loved it and still own it to this day. However, I probably still wouldn’t go back to using it as a daily driver even after dumping an untold fortune into its on-going resurrection.

Your editor’s rusty and not so trusty CJ7

While I was a quitter, one of my friends was driving a mid-90’s Oldsmobile 98 up until a few years ago. The opposite of cool, the comfy cruiser got the job done year after year.

Those are some admittedly bad options, but there are plenty of interesting vehicles from the 80’s and 90’s. I’ve always been a sucker for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and its soulless revival hasn’t dampened that enthusiasm.

However, you’d probably want to get something reliable and it’s hard to beat Toyota and Lexus at that. As a result, I wouldn’t mind having a second-generation Lexus LX as my daily driver today. Of course, that’s just me. What car from the ’80s and ’90s would you be willing to daily drive today? Let us know in the comments below.
