2021 wasn’t exactly a year to remember, but we’re asking our readers what were the best and worst new cars of the year?

While it’s hard to narrow things down, a number of models were either introduced or launched in 2021. However, picking a single winner is nearly impossible as there are plenty of models worth mentioning.

In particular, the Subaru BRZ and Toyota GR86 addressed the criticisms of the past by adding power, an improved gearbox, and striking new designs. Despite the changes, they’re still lightweight and phenomenal driver’s cars.

Cadillac also brought out a legitimate CTS-V successor in the form of the CT5-V Blackwing. Essentially a last hurrah to internal combustion engines, the model is the fastest and most powerful Cadillac in history.

It features a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 pumping out 668 hp (498 kW / 677 PS) and 659 lb-ft (892 Nm) of torque. This enables the sedan to rocket from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in as little as 3.4 seconds and onto a top speed in excess of 200 mph (322 km/h). Buyers will also find a standard six-speed manual, which is something that isn’t even offered on the BMW M5 or Mercedes-AMG E63.

At the other end of the spectrum, there’s the Infiniti QX55. While it’s probably not the worst car of the year, it’s so forgettable that this scribe had to look up its name and verify it was indeed launched in 2021. That’s not a good sign for an all-new model, especially one that was extensively hyped ahead of its debut.

Instead of leaning into the company’s rich history of crossover coupes, the QX55 simply exists without any of the charm or charisma of the pioneering FX. Given this, it’s not surprising to learn the model has barely registered with consumers as Infiniti only sold 1,735 units in the United States during the third quarter. Of course, the standard QX50 isn’t exactly flying off dealer lots and there was little doubt the crossover coupe would see even lower demand.

While the $46,500 QX55 is pretty forgettable, it does have some bright spots including a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo engine that produces 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 280 lb-ft (379 Nm) of torque. It’s connected to a continuously variable transmission and a standard all-wheel drive system.
