Rivian has delivered the first two examples of its all-electric R1S SUV but they haven’t gone to regular customers. Instead, they have been handed over to chief executive R.J. Scaringe and chief financial officer Claire Rauh McDonough.
In late November, the electric vehicle startup reached out to its customers, confirming that most who have ordered the R1T pickup truck will take delivery sometime between March and June of 2022. By comparison, those to have ordered an R1S SUV will need to wait longer to take delivery with most respondents to a Rivian Forums poll stating they are expecting delivery between July and September 2022.

In an announcement about the R1S being delivered to Scaringe and McDonough, Rivian said it is “working towards ramping production over the next few months on our way to full volume production.”
We made our first R1S deliveries last week from our factory in Normal, IL to RJ and our CFO Claire. We’re working towards ramping production over the next few months on our way to full volume production. Thanks to our team for all the hard work to make it happen! pic.twitter.com/Ql9Di2ySBE

Obviously, these two examples will be tested thoroughly by the CEO and CFO and their inputs and feedback will likely be used to iron out any issues before regular customer deliveries start next year.
A look at the Rivian R1S’s online configurator reveals that it comes standard with the automaker’s large battery pack offering 316 miles (508 km) of range and is offered with the Explore Package for $70,000 and the Adventure Package for $75,500. Like the R1T, it is powered by four electric motors that combine to produce 835 hp and 908 lb-ft of torque. The electric SUV will hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in 3.0 seconds, is capable of towing 7,700 lbs, offers 14.9 inches of ground clearance, and has a wading depth of over 3 feet.
