The E31-generation BMW 8-Series continues to make a statement 30 years after its launch and at last month’s SEMA Show, a particularly eye-catching E31 8-Series was unveiled.

This 8-Series is an 850ci model and started out life just like any other. However, over a three-month period, it was radically overhauled in time for the event and now looks a touch more modern while also looking significantly more aggressive than it once did.

The most significant modification made to the car is the fitment of a Pandem widebody kit that includes flared front and rear wheel arches, a distinctive front lip, extended side skirts, and a fixed rear wing. While we’re sure the body kit won’t be to everyone’s taste, we think it suits the 8-Series perfectly and looked right at home at SEMA.

The presence of flared wheel arches allowed the builders to slot on a set of massive 19×11 front and 19×12 rear wheels from BC Forged North America and wrapped in Toyo R888R tires. Further enhancing the car’s presence on the road is an air suspension system that allows it to be lowered when put on display and raised when it hits the road. Upgraded Brembo brakes have also been installed.

Completing the 8-Series‘ transformation is a striking wrap that uses the colors of BMW M.

Back in the day, BMW offered the 850ci with a handful of engines, initially with a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 with 282 hp and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) and later a 4.4-liter V8 with 282 hp and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm). Certain 850ci models were also available with a 5.0-liter V12 with 296 hp and 332 lb-ft (450 Nm) and a 5.4-liter V12 delivering 322 hp and 361 lb-ft (490 Nm).
