The Tesla Cybertruck has been delayed until 2022, but it’s inching closer to production as a YouTuber has caught a prototype that looks street legal.
Shot from a drone, the video gives us our best look at the highly anticipated pickup and reveals a number of changes from the concept that was introduced in 2019.
Starting up front, the prototype features new headlights that are located just above the bumper. They appear to be separated by a small intake and reside beneath the Cybertruck’s distinctive front light bar.

Moving further back, we can see a familiar body and lightly revised side skirts. The truck has also been equipped with conventional side mirrors as digital ones are no bueno in America. However, the biggest change is the addition of a comically large windshield wiper that sticks out like a sore thumb.
The wiper spans the length of the A-pillar and undoubtedly intrudes on the driver’s field of view. It’s a jarringly low-tech and ugly setup for a futuristic model, and even Tesla CEO Elon Musk knows it’s bad. After the video went viral, the Twitter obsessed executive acknowledged “The wiper is what troubles me most.”
Manufacturers have to ship cars with side mirrors by law, but owners are allowed to modify their cars.
The wiper is what troubles me most. No easy solution. Deployable wiper that stows in front trunk would be ideal, but complex.

It remains unclear if the massive wiper will carryover to the production model, but Musk said there’s “no easy solution” as a “deployable wiper that stows in [the] front trunk would be ideal, but complex.” That’s understandable, but hopefully a better looking solution can be found.
As for specifications, they’re up in the air as Tesla wiped initial details from their website and Musk has since confirmed there will be a modified powertrain lineup including a new quad motor variant. The executive also revealed plans for a Hummer-like Crab Mode and we can expect to learn more details about the Cybertruck early next year.
