Toyota continues to tease the forthcoming GR Corolla and just a few weeks after offering us a sneak peek of the hot hatch in promotional images for a lesser Corolla variant, the company’s marketing department has teased the car during a promotional clip for the GR 86.
This video was shared to Toyota USA’s Instagram page and shows a white and red GR 86 cruising along a mountain road and showing off some of their handling prowess. Towards the end of the video, an image of the GR Corolla briefly appears on screen, alongside a clip that shows a driver rowing their own gears, seemingly confirming the hatch will have a manual transmission.

While Toyota has yet to confirm what powertrain the GR Corolla will use, all signs point towards it being the same 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine as the GR Yaris. A teaser shared to Reddit in early December showed a Corolla with ‘G:16’ on its gauge cluster, likely in reference to the GR Yaris’s G16E-GTS engine. The climate control also displayed ‘2’ and ‘68’, fitting as the GR Yaris pumps out 268 hp.
It’s also possible that the GR Corolla will retain the same GR-Four all-wheel drive system as the GR Yaris. If that’s the case, it should prove to be quite fun to drive and will put rivals like the Honda Civic Type R and Hyundai i30 N on notice.
