Arguably one of the best perks of being a Formula 1 driver is the company cars. However, despite racing for four different teams over the past 6 years, Carlos Sainz still drives around in his first car, a Volkswagen Golf.

The 27-year-old Sainz received the car as a gift when he was 18, but he must have felt it was time for an upgrade, as in the latest video on his YouTube channel, he visits the Ferrari factory to replace it with a customized Prancing Horse of his own.

But despite Sainz now driving for Ferrari, this car is allegedly being paid for with his own money, though that likely wouldn’t be too difficult on an F1 driver’s salary. The video is very clever in keeping exactly which car he’s buying a secret, although based on a few select interior shots, it appears to be an 812 Competizione, and in addition to all the normal customization options like colors, trim, upholstery, etc., Sainz can also be seen adding his personal logo to the mix as well as his signature on the steering wheel. He then mentions that the car won’t be ready for roughly a year.

After he’s done designing his car, he hits the Fiorano test track to take out a Dino from Ferrari’s Classiche collection, then heads to a restaurant with some Ferrari engineers afterwards. We must say that’s quite the day, and to watch the whole thing for yourself, you can check it out in the video below.
