Kia is recalling more than 400 Cadenza models from the 2020 model year in the United States due to an issue with the rear windows.
A recall notice posted online by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that the rear windows of impacted vehicles can be operated by the driver’s main power window switch even after the ignition has been turned off and if a front door is open. This fault means select 2020 Cadenza models do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 118, §S4(e).
Kia is not aware of any incidents related to the issue. The South Korean car manufacturer was first alerted to the issue by a customer on December 7, 2021 and quickly launched an investigation where it was able to replicate the issue noted by the customer.

Impacted Kia Cadenza models were produced between April 1, 2020 and October 15, 2020, and there are 451 examples across the United States. Impacted models were produced with the Technology trim package.
Kia will notify owners by first class mail on March 8. They will be instructed to bring their vehicle to a nearby Kia dealership where new software will be installed to the Driver Door Module. Kia will reimburse any owners who have previously paid to have the issue rectified. Dealerships will be notified on March 2.
The Kia Cadenza is no longer in production and in overseas markets, has been replaced by the new K8. Unfortunately, this new model will not be sold in the United States as the car manufacturer is focusing on selling crossovers stateside.
