The Subaru Forester has just been updated for the 2022 model year in Europe with a host of safety improvements and various other updates.
First and foremost, the 2022 Forester comes as standard with the automaker’s 4th generation EyeSight Driver Assist Technology that features 11 safety functions, three of which are new. These include Automatic Emergency Steering, Adaptive Cruise Control with Lane Centering, and Lane Departure Prevention that recognizes road edges.

Additionally, the Japanese automaker has updated its Driver Monitoring System that alerts the driver of fatigue or distraction. It also automatically adjusts driver settings for seat position, door mirror angles, and air-conditioning preferences and now features a gesture control system that allows the driver to raise or lower the temperature.
All 2022 Forester models sold in Europe come with the company’s S-AWD all-wheel drive system and e-BOXER powertrain that pairs a 147 hp (150 PS) 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine with a 16.5 hp (16.7 PS) electric motor and a 13.5 kW battery. A Lineartronic transmission is also featured and the SUV offers Engine driving, EV driving, and Motor Assist driving modes. It can travel in all-electric mode for up to 1.6 km (0.9 miles) and hit 40 km/h (24 mph). A new e-Active Shift Control feature has been added when the SUV is in ‘S’ mode, contributing to more agile driving on winding roads.
A number of off-roading features should also help the updated Forester perform well when driven off the beaten path. It offers 220 mm (8.6-inches) of ground clearance and offers a dual-function X-Mode system with Snow/Dirt and Deep snow/Mud functions. Hill Descent Control is also standard and the 2022 Forester can tow up to 1,870 kg (4,122 lbs).
