GM President Mark Reuss announced on LinkedIn today that the first pre-production Cadillac Lyriq has rolled off the line at the plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee that will soon build the all-electric SUV.
The first Cadillac EV based on the Ultium platform, the Lyriq will be an important vehicle for the brand that has placed a big bet on electric vehicles. This latest milestone means that the automaker will be able to start shipping the vehicle to customers “in a few months.”
“Our teams have worked tirelessly on the Lyriq, bringing the launch up nine months ahead of schedule and working in parallel to convert the plant and start production,” said Reuss. “This is an important proof point in our path to EV leadership as we introduce more high-volume EVs across price points and lifestyles.”

The first in a series of EVs planned for Cadillac, the brand announced that it had completed 80 percent validation of the vehicle in November. Earlier this month, meanwhile, we saw a pre-production test vehicle driving on public roads.
At launch, the Lyriq will be offered with just one powertrain that will consist of a 100 kWh battery pack and an electric motor making 340 hp (345 PS/254 kW) and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) of torque driving the rear wheels. That will allow the vehicle to go an estimated 300 miles (482 km) on a charge.
In its Debut Edition guise, the Lyriq will come with 20-inch wheels, an AKG 19-speaker audio system, active noise cancellation, a heated steering wheel, eight-way adjustable power front seats, and a 33-inch display in which both the gauge cluster and infotainment screen are contained.
Reservations for the crossover opened in mid-September for the U.S. market where the Debut Edition model sold out in just 10 minutes and in November for China, where 5,000 pre-orders were quickly received. Cadillac will open reservations for other models in the U.S. this summer.
