The Haval H6, which is in its third generation since 2020, has been quite popular in China, so Great Wall Motors decided to bring more variants to the Australian market. Besides the regular model which is marketed as the H6 Ultra, Haval added a new trim called H6 Vanta, and announced the H6 GT which is a sportier coupe-SUV variant. The latter was originally introduced in China last August as the H6S, but Great Wall Motors chose an admittedly cooler-sounding name for Down Under.
While most automakers only change the design of the rear end in coupe-SUV variants, Haval went a step further by redesigning a larger portion of the body. Thus, the H6 GT comes with a new grille and intakes matching with the inclined roofline, the integrated duck-tail rear spoiler, and the diffuser-style addition on the rear bumper featuring twin tailpipes.

The H6 GT is measuring 4,727 mm (186.1 inches) long, 1,940 mm (76.4 inches) wide, and 1,729 mm (68 inches) tall. This makes it 74 mm (2.9 inches) longer, 54 mm (2.1 inches) wider, and 5 mm (0.2 inches) taller than the regular H6, while retaining an identical 2,738 mm (107.8 inches) wheelbase.
Inside, both models have a digital cockpit with a standard 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment. The H6 GT is differentiated thanks to the sports seats and the unique trim options, while safety equipment includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go alongside other ADAS systems.
Under the bonnet, there is a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine producing 201 hp (150 kW / 204 PS) and 320 Nm (236 lb-ft) of torque. Power is transmitted to either the front or all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The H6 GT is supposed to be sportier, thus Haval added Brembo brakes and a set of Michelin tires for improved handling.
Haval is offering a limited number of 1,000 units of the H6 Vanta priced at AU$39,990 ($28,885) for the 2WD and AU$41,990 ($30,327) for the 4WD version. However, there is also the more widely available H6 Ultra trim which has sold around 3,500 units Down Under since its debut in April 2021. As for the Haval H6 GT, it is expected to reach Australian showrooms from the second quarter of 2022, with pricing to be announced at a later date.
