Between the chip crisis, the coronavirus pandemic, and the transition to electric vehicles, buying a new car is no longer as easy as visiting a local dealership and choosing from their vast selection.
With limited inventories, you can take what you can get and hopefully not get ripped off in the process. Of course, you can also order one of the countless new models on the horizon.
That brings us to our question of the day, how long would you wait for a new model? It’s a timely subject as automakers are increasingly introducing vehicles years before they go into production.
QOTD: What Cars Are Your Looking Forward To In 2022?
Take the Tesla Cybertruck for example, it was introduced in 2019 and has reportedly been delayed until 2023. Tesla is far from alone in this as the GMC Hummer EV SUV was introduced last spring and won’t go into production until early 2023. However, the company is focusing on the range-topping variants first so if you want the $79,995 EV2 variant, you’ll be waiting until the spring of 2024 – nearly three years after the model was originally introduced.
EVs aren’t the only models forcing customers to pack their patience as securing a Ford Bronco without a huge markup is a bit like winning the lottery. Ford even cautions would-be buyers that if they order a 2022 Bronco, they might not necessarily get it this year as they should “discuss timing with their dealer” and “know that the Bronco four-door model ordered with a soft top will continue to be the quickest way to a Bronco regardless of other commodities selected.”
While those are just a few examples, how long would you wait for a new model? A few weeks or months seems fairly reasonable, but would you be willing to wait a year or more? Let us know in the comments below.
